Getting involved at the nature reserve
You don't need to join in with any organised activities to be welcome at the reserve at any time.
But we rely on volunteers to make the reserve the special place it is. Please read on to see how you could help. Whatever your interests, a great way to get started is by coming along to the reserve on a Sunday afternoon to meet up with the working party.
Weekly working parties
Throughout the year, working parties are held on Sundays between 2 and 4pm, unless it is raining, and new volunteers are always welcome. Volunteers meet at the gate with the noticeboard, near to the top of Steeple lane (coming from the Cornish Arms side). Tools and gloves are provided, and sturdy shoes are recommended. A variety of tasks are undertaken through the seasons, based on what most needs to be done (please see "Current Work" above). Typical activities are vegetation clearance, tree planting and footpath maintenance.
Supporting activities
Several members of the group are involved in more specialist activities such as butterfly surveys, site monitoring, operational planning, producing educational resources for school visits and applications for funding. Please contact the group via the Contact Us page if you would like to get involved in any of these activities (or come along on a Sunday afternoon to meet some of the organisers).
Sponsorship
We are always in need of donations to contribute towards the cost of managing the reserve - please see the Sponsor a Tree page for details of several ways in which you could help.
