Progress update

Site operations (updated Nov 16th 2009)

Rhododendron ponticum has been entirely cleared from Steeple Woods, but its seedlings and resprouting stumps require on-going attention on Treloyan Downs. Bracken is becoming an increasing problem in parts of Treloyan Downs, posing a threat to the establishment of young trees and ground flora alike. Volunteers will be paying particular attention to controlling this aggresive coloniser during next year's growing season.

Around 900 native trees will be planted on site this winter.

Our leaflet, documentary and website

Three important new publicity/information projects have recently been completed by project volunteers, using funds generously provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The first is a colour leaflet on the reserve, which is being made available to all individuals and organisations with an interest in the site and its management. Copies of the leaflet can be obtained at the St.Ives Tourist Information Centre (in the Guildhall), St.Ives Library and direct from project volunteers. Alternatively you can print out your own copy by clicking the following links:

Secondly, local film maker Alban Roinard has worked with project volunteers to produce a highly informative and visually stunning documentary about the reserve. This has already caught the interest of staff at St.Ives School and at Duchy College, Rosewarne, where the docummentary is being used to provide students with insights into the management of the reserve, as part of their Geography and Countryside Management courses. A longer, subtitled version of the film has also produced for use in quiet locations such as St.Ives Library and the Stennack Surgery waiting area.

Thirdly, this website went on-line in November 2008. Its aim is provide useful, up-to-date information on the reserve for all interested parties. It is gradually being added to, so please bookmark us and visit again soon!
